| | accomplished | ] | Did some more work on that portrait. I am trying to push my pencil skills to the next level. I think it's getting there...I'm fairly close to achieving what I want with this. Just have some more tweaking and shading to do.
The title 'Secret Smile' came to me because as it developed, he seemed to be slightly smiling, though I didn't actually try to do that.

Hints, tips, crits, suggestions and all other luvins welcome. :D |

| | creative | ] | This one is just me trying to test out my drawing chops. Used a pic of Goran Visnjic for reference....not really a drawing of him cause it doesn't look like him AT ALL...lol. Don't know how much farther I will go with this. No matter how many times I draw that left eye I just can't make it look like it belongs on that face and it is throwing off the whole drawing. A good exercise for me, nonetheless.
( Sketchy fun )
This sketch was done to help me with a painting I've been working on forever. He's like a cross between a dragon and a duck or something, not really sure what he is. He won't get much more specific, just have to fix his leg and then finish the tail design. I was going for scared, but it came out more surprised or curous. I think he's a cutie, though. :D

| | distressed | ] | Don't know what made me check my site stats today, cause I rarely do it. But, as I was looking through, I was disconcerted to find out that there are a lot of crappy little sites that troll through recently updated journals and snag the pics. I'm sure this has come up before since I haven't been around. But, they hotlink to the images on their sites. One of the sites had a silly little disclaimer: If you wish to share these images, please DO NOT leech them off the servers. Ridiculous!
I don't suppose there is anything that can be done about it. I guess I could just put some kind of watermark on anything I post here....not that my stuff is all that great, but it still sucks, lol. And, I have loads of unused bandwidth, so that's not the issue either. Just felt like a violation. meh |

| | artistic | ] | Wow, I haven't been here for about a year and a half. Just completely forgot about this place. I just went and re-read all of my old journals....very interesting. I am a weird little puppy, lol. A lot of things I have forgotten about since then. Even cracked up a couple of times, hehe....I make me laugh. I don't know, I guess I just felt no one wants to read my whinings about my life or something, so gave up on it. But, I'd like to give it another go....but more as an art journal this time (possibly interlaced with my random musings from time to time).
It's part of my new year's resolution to refocus myself on my art - since I haven't finished any drawings since about the last time I was here. I've been drawing, just can't seem to finish anything. I have tons of projects in the works. Now, if I could just FINISH something, I'd be ecstatic....it's been far too long!
I've finally broken down and realized that I am never going to be able to do in paint shop pro what can be done in photoshop. So, after years of avoiding it like the plague, I have decided it is high time that I tame that beast. To that end, I went on a hunt for some of the best tutorials on the net, and have been doing some experimenting.
Here is a work in progress shot of a tutorial I am following by Linda Bergkvist: ( Eye Tut ) I know the eye is a bit mishapen, but I decided to leave it like that since the main focus of this is technique and getting to know photoshop. This was done completely with my mouse because me and my wacom still do not get along. It was skipping all of the place when I was just trying to sketch the eye to get started, so I put it down and did it the old-fashioned way.
Another part of my drawing resolution involves finally figuring out how to use my wacom. I wanted it for so long, I finally got one and haven't done much of anything with it. I just need to find a way to make it feel more natural. I guess that just comes with time and practice. lol, I certainly have managed to scratch it up....probably because psp doesn't have the pressure sensitivity like ps does.
Here is a work in progress shot of a drawing I have been working on from time to time using my wacom in Painter Classic: ( Demon )
Closeup: ( Demon Large ) The scribbliness was not intended, but I just have a hard time trying to get something non scribbly. Though, it may have to do with the fact that the actual size of the drawing is huge, and most of this was drawn zoomed out so I could get an idea of the overall look. Probably not a good idea to try drawing a man (which is a challenge for me in and of itself) as my first computer drawing. ;) I have actually fixed the problems with the torso, now to figure out the stance...
Hints, tips, crits, suggestions and all other luvins welcome. :D |

| | lazy | ] | I should be doing my laundry right now, but I'm avoiding it. I've been avoiding it for days, but since I have absolutely nothing to wear to work tomorrow, I figure I have to get it done some time today...lol. I've just been really tired for some reason lately. I went to sleep at 10:30 last night! That is unheard of for a night owl like me. And, I slept all the way through until 8 something this morning. At which time I was supposed to get dressed and go do my laundry. Here it is almost six hours later and I'm sitting in front of the computer trying to find stuff to do. I suppose I should shake a tail feather because I have to babysit tonight at 7, and it'll probably take me two hours or there abouts to get it all washed and dried. Oh, just the thought of lugging that heavy shopping cart up and down five flights of stairs is making my back hurt already. *snickers*
Some day, I'm going to have a penthouse in Manhattan, and I'll have my own washer and dryer in there. The kind that is like the laundromat ones, so my underwires won't get ruined. Yeah, it'll happen, I tell ya! Really! *wink*
- By the by, does anyone know of any good resources for learning how to use a wacom effectively? |

| | creative | ] | Well, I had a really shitty week last week so I went and bought myself a 4x5 Graphire 3 wacom. I'm still trying to get used to working with it. I started out just doing a doodle to see what it's like to use it. Now, it's turned into an all out project. I think I have started it over about three times.
I think I prefer doing my drawings in my sketchbook, scanning them and then coloring them. This is just frustrating me - in a good way, I guess. I do want to do color drawings without lines, and this is the best way to do it. I couldn't get any specificity with the mouse. I just can't seem to do anything that I like. I have spent a lot of time on it, but I don't have much to show for it because I keep erasing the stuff I do.
I also need to figure out how to make those nifty background textures I have seen people do in Painter Classic. My initial attempts were not promising...lol. And I've been waiting to get my tablet before I would try to use brushes (I collected a lot, especially hair ones)....not looking good on that front either. hehe...my tablet utopia is crumbling.
I was hoping to have the drawing to update my journal with, but it's just a neverending thing, who knows when I'll be satisfied with it? Yes, well that is all the news on my muse - may she live and thrive. |

| Quick tidings... |
[Jan. 5th, 2004|01:42 am] |
First of all:
Happy birthday anticmuse!! (I think I saw you mention in your journal a few days ago that today was your birthday.) Hope you have a wonderful day and get some great prezzies. :D
Well, as soon as I decide that I am going to spend the weekend drawing and actually get all my stuff out, here comes my roommate on a mission to get me out of my room and away from the internet....lol. Margaritas, pina coladas and strawberry daquiri's and both nights. Whoo. I'm ready to pass out, but I'm not drunk - just tired. ;) Well, it's back to work in the morning - early too, blergh! Can't beleive I'll be asleep before 2am (and I will because I can hardly keep my eyes open). Okay, that's it for me. See you all manana. *kisses* |

| Still kind of out of it... |
[Dec. 19th, 2003|04:38 am] |
Don't know what it is, but I'm still just really tired everyday....lol....well, it could be all the late nights, but I do that all the time. Anyway, I still haven't gotten back on track with my lj spree, but I'll have the weekend.
I did this the other day and forgot all about it. anonymyarse said I must go play, so I did. Though, when I looked at the link I thought it was potato head and was surprised not to seem him there. Then, the more I played with it, I got more and more irritated by the fact that I couldn't get it to look the way I noticed.....at which point, I looked at the address bar and noticed the 'picasso' in there....it's not supposed to look good, or whatever.
Man, I can be so dense sometimes!! Anyway, this is what I came up with - I think her face reflects the mood I was in....lol:

Now, you go play and make something of your own |

| | amused | ] | Yeah, so I know I said I was going to sleep early - I just can't do that if I'm not sick or exhausted. I love the night life, I've got to boogie. -grin- I am going to have such a hard time getting up in the morning...actually, a few hours.
Well, I am actually going to call it a night for now and get back to my ljrevels tomorrow night. Just wanted to add that I have two new friends on my list ybrik2k - fantastic artist, wonderful photographer and sexy, sexy beast....hehe. :D And, yllafairy - another great artist. She just redesigned her site, it's quite lovely. Of course, I am jealous of anyone who has been able to get a redesign done lately....maybe next year mine will happen. lol
Yeah, these are all over the place. Silly me, I thought I was going to get to chose who was 'a-what-ing' and in which order they were 'a-doing-it'...sort of like madlibs or something. Still cute, nontheless.

| | awake | ] | I've been in a coma for the past week - got that flu that's been going around. Explains why I was feeling so crappy and sore for days before it actually hit me. Fortunately, I didn't get it as bad as my roommate who is currently coughing up her right lung. *poor thing* But, I did sleep about 20 hours a day..lol. Today was the first day that I left the house since last week. It was a good day for it, too - really nice and warm out. Not what you'd expect in the middle of December in New York.
Anyway....I don't really have anything to say at the moment. I just wanted to let people know that I haven't dropped off the face of the earth again. -grin-
Don't mind me as I go around and reply to those old posts that I missed whilst I blissfully slept. Though, I might not get to much since I have to go to sleep soon. Early hours this week.....grrr. Getting up anytime before 11am is just a sin, a sin I tell ya!! |

| | giggly | ] | Here's some random fluff coming your way:
Well, I happened to catch Krull and the Golden Child last night. So, I thought I'd post a 'favorite 80's fantasy movie' thread, because, I grew up in the 80's and have all of those warm fuzzy memories associated with that decade. :P
Let's see: Krull, the Golden Child, Legend, The Princess Bride (was that from the 80's?), Beast Master, Flash Gordon, The Conan movies, Dragonslayer, Clash of the Titans, Little Monsters, and an honorary mention to Labyrinth - I never actually saw it, but I am sure that I will love it as soon as I do.
- that's all I can think of for now....memory isn't what it used to be. |

| | okay | ] | I realized that I never welcomed my new friends to my friends list....though, since my journal is barely two weeks old, everyone is new. So, I'll just say thanks to all of you for being so kind to add me back. Oh, and my good buddy anonymyarse just joined my friend's list. Whoo dawgie! :D She just celebrated her birthday last weekend with much drunkeness. Good luck on your trip hon.
Thanks to bettie_caroline and anticmuse for your support. - hugs - hehehe....there is no end to the depths of my pessimism sometimes. But, she came through the surgery just fine and has already started the rehab phase. I'm extremely relieved....man, I had myself so worried that night that when I woke up the next day, it felt like someone had been beating on me in the middle of the night.
I'm still kinda sore, but now that has more to do with my cat being in heat....am suffering major damage trying to comfort her. I didn't think she would go into heat so soon after having her kitties. I'm going to have to try to get in touch with the Humane society once she's done. We can't go through this again.
Anyhoo, that's it from me for now. I have been really tired and unfocused lately - which accounts for my MIA status around my usual haunts. Well, I've been around, just haven't had anything to say, really. Hoping to be a little less zombified by the weekend. |

You're just the happy go-lucky type. You might have your pet peeves, but other than that, you're mainly calm. Blending in with your surroundings, you're the type of person who everyone likes. Usually it's you who cracks jokes at social gatherings - after all, laughter is the best medicine. Sometimes you pretend to be stupid, but in all actuality, you could be the next Einstein.

I was checking to see what was on tonight, and just squealed with delight when I saw that 'Santa Claus is coming to town' and 'The Year without a Santa' are coming on back to back on ABC Family. Man, I loved those movies when I was a kid!

| | blank | ] | Yeah, so it's been snowing ever since I got to work yesterday morning. Silly me, I actually skipped going online Thursday night so I could go to sleep early (am I the only one who loses all track of time when they go online? I always wind up staying up way later than I thought I would or should for that matter), get up early and get to work early so I could leave early and not get caught in the snow storm - which my weather man said wouldn't be starting until late in the afternoon. But, as I said, it started as soon as I got to work in the morning. So, by the time it was time to leave, it was way up over the ankles...oh joy! I mean, snow is pretty and great if you don't have to travel in it. I'm very glad that I don't have to go anywhere until Monday. It's been years since I've had a snowball fight. What did I do with my gloves? Ever since it started snowing, I've had 'Let it snow' and 'Walking in a winter wonderland' stuck in my head. Get it out, get it out, GET IT OUT!!
lol.....I have been feeling pretty bah humbugish about the holidays as usual - just don't mean anything to me anymore. But, those dang yuletide carols keep creeping into my head and I find myself singing stuff like 'It's the most wondrful time of the year'. *smirk*
I find that I have been sleeping a lot lately....don't know why I'm suddenly so tired after work. I come home, turn on the computer, download my email and then my brain just shuts off and goes into sleepy mode. I haven't been able to focus on anything. Oh well, time for some journal hopping and then back to work on that cg that I figure I will finish....next never. Man, I want a freaking art tablet!! I need a fairy godmother.....or a sugar daddy. |
